Small Animal
Snake River Veterinary Center offers comprehensive small animal services in a clean, comfortable hospital. Certified veterinary technicians and assistants provide your pet with care and compassion while helping our veterinarians make sure your pets get the care they deserve. Listed below are some of the services we offer.
Soft Tissue and Orthopedic Surgery: From routine spays and neuters to selected orthopedic procedures, all surgeries are performed in our dedicated surgery suite. A certified veterinary technician and assistant constantly monitor your pet’s vital signs with the help of specialized equipment. Special attention is given to each patient to manage and control pain associated with injuries and surgery.
Medicine: Diagnosis and treatment of medical conditions.
Wellness Exams and Preventative Medicine: Annual or semi-annual wellness exams are the first steps to keeping your pet happy and healthy.
Vaccination Programs: Vaccination protocols don’t fall into a “one-shot fits all” program. We try to vaccinate your pet according to its needs and risk of disease exposure.
Parasite Control: Testing, treating, and prevention of internal and external parasites are important to the health of your pet. Parasites are not only dangerous to your pet, but certain ones are zoonotic or can potentially be passed to humans where they may cause serious disease.
In-house and Referral Laboratory Testing: Snake River Veterinary Center is equipped with a complete in-house laboratory capable of performing blood chemistries, complete blood counts, urinalyses, Parvovirus infections, Feline Leukemia Virus, Feline Immunodeficiency Virus, parasite screening, and others. We also utilize numerous referral laboratories to perform those tests we don’t have available to us in-house.
Artificial Insemination: We perform nonsurgical artificial insemination for canine patients.
Imaging: Snake River Veterinary Center is equipped with x-ray and ultrasound to meet a variety of imaging needs.
Dentistry: Prophylactic dental cleanings include dental scaling and polishing. When necessary, advanced dental techniques, antibiotics, and pain management will be utilized for extractions and oral surgery.
Boarding: We offer overnight boarding for both canine and feline visitors in clean, comfortable runs and cages. Cats are housed away from the hustle and bustle of the busy hospital and dogs enjoy spacious runs in a climate controlled, odor-free environment. Dogs are taken to our exercise yard several times daily where they are allowed to play and enjoy being out in our secure area.
In-house Pharmacy: Snake River Veterinary Center maintains an in-house pharmacy complete with most medications your pet may need for your convenience.
Emergency Services: Emergencies happen and the doctors participating in our on-call service are there to provide your pet with care if something happens after regular business hours. Call (208) 452-7950 and follow the instructions to reach a veterinarian after hours.
End of Life and Cremation Services: As pet owners, we don’t like to consider the possibility of having to make the decision to euthanize a pet, but sometimes it is a decision we have to make. It is a difficult, emotional time. Our caring staff will help you through the process with compassion and understanding. We do offer at home euthanasia services during this difficult time.

Boarding
Snake River Veterinary Center offers a full-service boarding facility, available seven days a week for dogs and cats. Our kennels are modern, spacious, odor free, and climate controlled. Dogs (that aren't chewers) are provided a comfortable Kuranda bed to lift them up off the floor. Your pet's individual quarters provide natural light and are cleaned daily. We have a large, secure exercise yard for your dog to romp and play, weather permitting, at least twice daily. Our feline guests are comfortable in their own private room, away from barking dogs and the hustle and bustle of the hospital.
Check-in and Check-out: Regular check-in and check-out days are Monday through Friday 9:00 am to 5:30 pm, and Saturday from 9:00 am to 1:00 pm. Charges begin on the day your pet is dropped off and for each day thereafter. Pets picked up before 1:00 am on the day of discharge will have the fee waived for the day. No pick up available on Sunday and Holidays.
Rates: Please contact our office for current rates at (208) 452-7950.
Holiday Reservations: We are closed on New Year’s Day, Memorial Day, July 4th, Labor Day, Thanksgiving and Christmas. However, our boarding facility is fully operational and our kennel staff is on duty to care for our guests. Holidays fill up early so call ahead for reservations.
Vaccinations and Parasite Control: It is mandatory that your pet is current on all vaccinations to ensure the protection of all pets under our care. The following vaccinations are required:

Cats: Annual FVRCP with leukemia, and rabies.
Proof of vaccination by a licensed veterinarian is required. We accept invoices, medical records, or signed vaccination certificates. Breeder and home vaccinations are not accepted.

About Us
The Doctors and staff at Snake River Veterinary Center are committed to providing the best possible health and wellness services for both large and small animals in our community. Our mission is to treat each client with respect, honesty, and friendliness while treating their animals with the care and compassion they deserve.
History
The Snake River Veterinary Center moved to its current location in August of 2003 after an extensive remodel of the former Limbaugh home, located on Whitley Drive. The Limbuagh home was originally constructed in the late 1800’s. The Spainower family was the original owner and sold the home to I.V. and Emma Daisy Limbaugh in the 1930’s. I.V. was a fruit grower and lived in the house with Daisy and their children, Lawrence and Ouida until he passed away in the 1940’s. Daisy moved in with her daughter, Ouida and her husband, Theodore Reins.
In the 1950’s, the home was rented to the Vaughn family who owned the Gayway Bowl, formerly located at Gayway Junction in Fruitland. In 1961, Lawrence Jr., an orchard man like his father and grandfather, and his wife Barbara, remodeled the house. Together they raised their five children Mark, Tom, Lori, Chris, and Cathy at 401 N. Whitley Drive. Barbara remained in the house until around 2001. We are fortunate to have our veterinary hospital located in a Fruitland landmark. We enjoy hearing client’s stories of how they spent time socializing with the Limbaugh family when they lived in the house. There are reminders everywhere of the house’s history including an old boiler, children’s growth charts, and paintings on concrete floors. We hope you enjoy this wonderful old building as much as we do.

Alicia Ewing, DVM, MS
Dr. Alicia Ewing is a graduate of University of Idaho and Washington State University’s College of Veterinary Medicine. She has been practicing in the Treasure Valley since 2014 and at Snake River Veterinary Center since 2015. Dr. Ewing Purchased the practice in January of 2019. She is versed in both large and small animal medicine and enjoys every aspect of working in a mixed animal veterinary practice. Dr. Ewing grew up on a cattle ranch in Western Montana but has been living in Idaho for 18 years. She enjoys being a member of the local Crossfit gym and outdoor activities like horseback riding and hiking and spending time with her four-legged kids- a blue heeler named Patches and two cow dog mixes Spud and Walleye.
Jamie Matsuura, DVM
Dr. Matsuura is a native of Idaho; growing up in the rural part of Blackfoot, she was always surrounded by animals. She completed her Bachelor of Science degree in Biology from the University of Oregon and Idaho State University. After graduating from Washington State University College of Veterinary Medicine (right alongside Dr. Alicia Ewing!), she spent three years practicing small animal medicine in Winnemucca, Nevada. Her focus hasn’t necessarily been on any one specific skill or area of veterinary medicine; rather, on the quality of care and experience provided to both patient and client. Dr. Matsuura strives to understand the unique needs of each individual, and together with the entire Snake River Vet team, will meet those needs. Outside of her career, Dr. Matsuura has always had a love for horses and riding. While her teenage years were spent in the hunter/jumper ring, she now enjoys training in dressage with her mare, Grace. She and her husband, Andy, have unsurprisingly, accumulated several pets as well—two dogs and two cats make up the remainder of the household. She also enjoys traveling, baking and cooking, and being a member of the local Crossfit gym.
